Invitation for Nominations for ICSSR-Amartya Sen Award for Distinguished Social Scientists - 2013

The ICSSR invites nominations from the persons designated under the guidelines for the Amartya Sen Awards for Distinguished Social Scientists – 2013. These prestigious awards are an opportunity to honour the outstanding contributions made by social science scholars towards promoting scientific knowledge in the domain of social sciences.

Following are the disciplines in which these awards are given to the Distinguished Social Scientists annually:

1. Economics
2. Commerce / Management
3. Sociology / Social Work / Social Anthropology
4. Political Science /International Studies / Public Administration
5. Geography / Demography
6. Psychology / Education
7. Legal Studies/ Human rights
8. Gender / Marginalized Groups
9.  History / Archaeology
10. Philosophy / Cultural Studies

Eligibility Criteria: Any citizen of India/Overseas citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO) below the age of 55 years as on 31st December 2013, engaged in research and who has made outstanding contribution-theoretical and/or empirical--towards the advancement of knowledge in any field of social sciences, is eligible for the award.

About the Award: The Amartya Sen Awards are envisaged to be the distinguished award for social science research in India. The Award comprises a citation and a cash award of Rs. 10 lakh. Each year up to ten awards will be given to the scholars who have made outstanding contribution to social science research.

The nomination must be submitted by the persons designated according to the specified proforma as provided in the guidelines available on www.icssr.org. Duly filled nominations must reach The Member Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research, Aruna Asaf Ali Marg, New Delhi – 110067 by the submission deadline.

National workshop on “Open Source Software: A Tool to Manage Research Outputs”


Birla Institute of Technology - Mesra, Ranchi, Jharkhand in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi, conducting 3 days national workshop on “Open Source Software: A Tool to Manage Research Outputs” at BITS, Ranchi from 23-25 September 2013.

Registration, food, accommodation will be free during the workshop period only but TA/DA will not be provided. This workshop will create awareness among the participants on availability of various open source software to build their own digital library to archive/mange their research output. The program will also focus to develop competitive skills and techniques for social scientist/ scholars/librarians to design and develop their personal digital library.

The workshop is limited to 30 participants, so the acceptance is, application on first cum first basis, along with the professional background. The last date to receive the filled registration form is 1st September 2013.

Post:   Director (Documentation)

Applications are invited for filling up of one post of Director (Documentation) by direct selection or on promotion/deputation basis in the scale of pay Rs.15600-39100+7600 Grade Pay.

 

Essential Qualification:

(i)       Second class Master’s or Ph.D. degree in any field of social science.
(ii)      Degree or diploma in Library Science, and
(iii)     At least seven years experience as a librarian of an important library.   

Desirable Qualifications:
(1)      M.Phil./Ph.D. degree in library science/information science/ documentation/archives.
(2)      High level of computer skills, good knowledge of library software.

Age:                Below 55 years.

Probation:     Two Years.

Promotion from amongst Dy. Directors (Doc.) having rendered at least 3 years service in the grade will also be considered.

Age and educational qualifications prescribed for direct recruitment will also apply in case of promotion.  However, the Council may relax the age and educational qualifications in suitable cases on the recommendation of the Selection Committee.

Transfer/Deputation: Persons holding analogous or equivalent posts to Dy. Director (Documentation) in the ICSSR or a Central or State Govt. Deptt. Universities or autonomous organizations similar to ICSSR may apply. 
         
Note1:          The departmental officers in the feeder category who are in the direct line of promotion shall not be eligible for consideration for appointment on deputation. Similarly, deputationists shall not be eligible for consideration for appointment by promotion.

Note 2:         Period of deputation shall be as per Govt. rules.

Note 3:           In case of applicants working in a University as a Professor, his/her salary will be protected.

In search of answers to these questions a workshop was held in Cambridge, UK in September 2009, bringing together scholars from the United Kingdom, India and the Netherlands.The aim was to examine ways to bridge gaps between child development and education, theory and practice, evolution of effective educational practices and current practices, and evolution of needed knowledge on child and adolescent mental health.

ICSSR-NASSDOC was organised 2 days workshop on “Awareness programme for Social science PhD students those who registered in Hindi medium” from 14-15, February 2013 at 35, ferozeshah Road, New Delhi. Topics covered like Summary writing, Research methodology, Literature survey, quantitative research in social science, SPSS, etc. About 25 PhD scholars participated from Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
