Applicants to all schemes of the ICSSR in the new financial year (2016-17) will be required to apply afresh in this financial year as per the Guidelines approved by the ICSSR. These Guidelines, along with the calendar for each scheme, has been placed on the Council website. A fresh call inviting applications will be issued as per the scheme calendar, wherever necessary. Training Workshop on Content Management System and Social Science Research, MPISSR, Ujjain, 15-18 March 2016

We are pleased to inform you that the M.P. Institute of Social Science Research, Ujjain in collaboration with the National Social Science Documentation Centre (NASSDOC), Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi is organising a four-days Training Workshop on Content Management System and Social Science Research during March 15 to 18, 2016 at M. P. Institute of Social Science Research, Ujjain.
The training workshop will focus on the renewed role of technologies in promoting research in social sciences by using/browsing different information resources. In view of the ICSSR/NASSDOC’s emphasis on training and skill development of participants in the country, this workshop will serve the purpose of improving the quality of research in social sciences and also to provide effective information services to the wider network of social science researchers in India.

The programme will be open to librarian, researchers in social sciences, and information managers of research institutions. Applications are invited on or before February 20, 2016. Only short-listed candidates will be informed for participation in the programme. Lodging and Boarding will be arranged by the Institute only for the participants for the programme period. Travel (Sleeper Class) will be reimbursed to outstation participants. There is no Course Fee. The climate in Ujjain in March will be pleasant.

ICCSR Special Lecture by Thomas Piketty

Thomas Piketty is a French economist who works on wealth and income inequality. He is a professor (directeur d'études) at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), professor at the Paris School of Economics and Centennial professor at the London School of Economics new International Inequalities Institute.

He is the author of the best-selling book Capital in the Twenty-First Century (2013), which emphasises the themes of his work on wealth concentrations and distribution over the past 250 years. The book argues that the rate of capital return in developed countries is persistently greater than the rate of economic growth, and that this will cause wealth inequality to increase in the future. He considers that to be a problem, and to address it, he proposes redistribution through a progressive global tax on wealth.

The ICSSR invites nominations from the persons designated under the guidelines for the Amartya Sen Awards for Distinguished Social Scientists – 2013. These prestigious awards are an opportunity to honour the outstanding contributions made by social science scholars towards promoting scientific knowledge in the domain of social sciences.

Following are the disciplines in which these awards are given to the Distinguished Social Scientists annually:

3. Sociology / Social Work / Social Anthropology

4. Political Science /International Studies / Public Administration

Eligibility Criteria: Any citizen of India/Overseas citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO) below the age of 55 years as on 31^st December 2013, engaged in research and who has made outstanding contribution-theoretical and/or empirical--towards the advancement of knowledge in any field of social sciences, is eligible for the award.

About the Award: The Amartya Sen Awards are envisaged to be the distinguished award for social science research in India. The Award comprises a citation and a cash award of Rs. 10 lakh. Each year up to ten awards will be given to the scholars who have made outstanding contribution to social science research.

The nomination must be submitted by the persons designated according to the specified proforma as provided in the guidelines available on www.icssr.org. Duly filled nominations must reach The Member Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research, Aruna Asaf Ali Marg, New Delhi – 110067 by the submission deadline.

National workshop on “Open Source Software: A Tool to Manage Research Outputs”

Birla Institute of Technology - Mesra, Ranchi, Jharkhand in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi, conducting 3 days national workshop on “Open Source Software: A Tool to Manage Research Outputs” at BITS, Ranchi from 23-25 September 2013.

Registration, food, accommodation will be free during the workshop period only but TA/DA will not be provided. This workshop will create awareness among the participants on availability of various open source software to build their own digital library to archive/mange their research output. The program will also focus to develop competitive skills and techniques for social scientist/ scholars/librarians to design and develop their personal digital library.

The workshop is limited to 30 participants, so the acceptance is, application on first cum first basis, along with the professional background. The last date to receive the filled registration form is 1st September 2013.
